Category: Critical Care Nursing The description of pulsus paradoxus by Kussmaul in 1873 was of the "paradox" of not palpating a pulse despite detecting a heartbeat during inspiration. It has since been described in patients during inspiration with a ↓ in LVSV and MAP.
