Category: Medical Surgical Nursing Etomidate (Amidate) is a potent hypnotic agent used for induction of surgical anesthesia. Unconsciousness develops rapidly and lasts about 5 minutes. The drug has no analgesic actions. Cardiovascular effects are less than with barbiturates.
