Category: Infectious Diseases Tetracyclines work by inhibiting protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria. For this synthesis to occur, transfer RNA must bind to the messenger RNA ribosome. The tetracyclines obstruct this synthesis by binding to the portion of the ribosome.
