Book Recommendations | Disease Processes!

Medical-Surgical Nursing: Assessment & Management of Clinical Problems
ISBN: 0323036902 | 978-0323036900

I still have this textbook and I will NEVER sell it. It was a required textbook during my nursing program. Yet as each semester passed throughout the program, I fell in love with it. This textbook covers every and any disease process and nursing intervention you could think of! When my husband had his heart attack, I read the Acute Coronary Syndrome chapter and the Post Operative Heart Surgery chapter. When he started his cardiac medications while in the hospital, I brought this book with me and read how each medication would interact with his new cardiac circulation. This book is extremely large but if you purchase any book for your nursing program... you need this book. I didn't like carrying around the larger volume textbook, so I opted for the 2-in-1 (double volume text) book option instead. This allowed me to carry the chapters I needed and not the entire, huge book.

Book Recommendations | Intravenous Medications!

Now that I'm a nurse and my license is on the line, I need to know the IV injection rates for the medications I give on a daily basis. My floor provides books and resources but to get to them is time consuming. From Zofran to Dilaudid, there are different injection times for each medication. This book provides me with that information and then some. What's lame is the binding and the thin paper. The packaging just isn't "carry" friendly, more of a desk reference. But, in the end it was worth the price!

Book Recommendations | Passing Nursing School Exams!

Saunders Strategies for Test Success: Passing Nursing School and the NCLEX Exam
ISBN: 1416062025 | 978-1416062028

If you can't understand your professor's frame of mind, exam explanations or answer choices on exams, then you need this book - Saunders Strategies for Test Success: Passing Nursing School and the NCLEX Exam! I love this book, it really helped me pass my final semester in nursing school. That was a tough semester for me and I just wasn't "getting" the material and bombing the exams. I turned to this book and it explained what my nursing exams wanted out of me (ADPIE, Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, Priority) and how to eliminate the incorrect options. With those skills in hand, you can focus on the correct answer and excel in the course. I wish I would have learned about this book when I first started nursing school, I would have a way higher GPA by now. This book even provides you with a CD that gives you with practice questions, so you can practice your new learned skills. It goes into great detail, explaining what the question was looking for and why you got it wrong or right.
